What Property is Probated?

The Harris County Probate Court acts as a “catch-all” to administer and distribute any property that is not otherwise provided for when a person passes away.  Common examples include:

  1. individually owned bank or stock accounts;
  2. real estate; and
  3. vehicles.

Property or accounts that are distributed according to the terms of a beneficiary or survivorship arrangement are generally not administered in the Harris County Probate Court.
